Prostatitis or problems with prostate infection often afflict men in their 30s to 50s. But even older men may also get prostatitis. Apart from the usual symptoms getting worse, mistreatment can also worsen problems with prostate infection.

Types of Prostatitis
Problems with prostate infection occur due to bacteria in the first two types of prostatitis. The causes of the other two are still unknown.
1. Acute bacterial. This type of prostatitis occurs suddenly. Its Symptoms range from serious chills, fever, blood in urine. Needs to be directly treated by a doctor. Acute bacterial is the easiest to detect and cure among all types. Unfortunately, it not very common.
2. Whereas chronic bacterial which does not occur suddenly and has recurring bladder infection as symptom. The cause of chronic bacterial could be some prostate defect that makes the urinary tract collect bacteria.
3. Pelvic-pain disorder or chronic prostatitis is most prevalent but yet least understood. Symptoms recur without warning and include pain or discomfort in the bladder or groin.
4. Asymptomatic prostatitis has no symptoms. It can only be detected if your doctor is examining you for infertility or prostate cancer. The condition does not necessarily indicate cancer.
What prostate infection symptoms to Expect
The first two types of prostatitis are associated with most problems of prostate infection.
In acute bacterial cases, infection and complications in other urinary tract areas is often observed, such as: - Unnatural frequent urination - Urgency and Pain during urination - Problems in creating a normal urine stream - Genital tenderness or pain - Pain during ejaculation
Problems with prostate infection in acute bacterial cases may begin when the patient gets chills and/or high fever. The patient may also feel tired all the time and have general feelings of being unwell.
When a patient with acute bacterial prostatitis goes in for an exam, the doctor will usually notice that the prostate has become warm,firm,irregular and enlarged. The health specialist will not normally perform too vigorous an exam for fear the problems with prostate infection spread to the bloodstream.
On the other hand,chronic bacterial cases are a leading cause of urinary tract infection in men. This happens because the same bacterial strain in the urine and the fluid of the prostate will cause problems with prostate infection to recur or persist.
Symptoms in chronic bacterial cases may be like those of acute bacterial ones, only less intense, plus: - Lower back and testicular pain - Tenderness of the penis - Sexual dysfunction or impotency - Mild fever - Joint and muscle pain -swollen prostate
A doctor's examination may show urethral discharge and pain in other areas around the genitals.
Prostate infection in chronic bacterial cases typically lead to depression and feelings of stress. It is still unknown whether psychological symptoms cause these feelings or vice versa. For an effective prostate infection treatment a proper prostate diagnosis is thus important to determine the exact cause and symptoms of the disease.
